Significant power supplies are needed for ore extraction and processing and other mining activity, including the provision of desalinated water supplies.
The Resources Infrastructure Task Force (RIT) is working with investors, the mining sector and local communities to provide electricity for regions’ industry and community needs in and around mining projects.
The South Australian Government has directed the RIT to work with industry to promote the following electricity-transmission projects as priority initiatives:
- upgrading the Eyre Peninsula transmission network
- developing a transmission link in South Australia’s mid-north, to Braemar, a region east of Yorke Peninsula abutting/crossing the NSW border
- upgrading the Yorke Peninsula transmission network.
Consultation will consider possible transmission corridors and the protection of critical sections from incompatible uses.
