Improved and additional rail and road routes will help investors transport ore and other products from mine sites to ports and other centres.
The South Australian Government supports a system that combines rail, slurry pipelines and road transport across South Australia and guided by the Integrated Transport and Land Use Plan. The Government has directed the Resources Infrastructure Task Force (RIT) to support the private sector in delivering land transport links by:
- considering land transport links in the development of land use plans
- assessing land transport corridors and protecting critical sections of corridors from incompatible uses
- considering the critical impact of rail and road safety on communities in planning and approval processes.
This approach recognises that the location of existing and any new ports is a major factor in planning new rail and road routes and corridors.
